How to upgrade from CloudLinux 7 to 8?
- CloudLinux OS 7/8
At the moment, there are two ways to get CloudLinux 8.
1. The first one is to deploy a new CloudLinux 8 server and migrate the user data manually. To migrate CloudLinux settings, use this article:
2. The second option is to use our ELevate project.
The CloudLinux ELevate project is currently in beta. Expect potential issues, in particular with third-party packages and/or repositories. We don't recommend using or testing this tool on your production servers unless you're completely sure about what you're doing.
The ELevate project is an initiative to support migrations between the major versions of RHEL derivatives.
The CloudLinux Elevate variant, built on top of the AlmaLinux ELevate project, aims to provide a streamlined method of upgrading CloudLinux 7 systems to CloudLinux 8 in place.
The Leapp utility is the main tool used to perform the upgrade.
At the moment, only migrating from CloudLinux 7 to CloudLinux 8 on no-panel systems is supported.
More information can be found here.
Are you planning on having CloudLinux Elevate fully ready before cPanel stops supporting CL7 on June 30, 2024 so we can upgrade to CL8 without migrating everything to a new server?
There will be some limitations and the most critical one - 3rd party packages installed from other than CloudLinux/cPanel repositories.
That sounds reasonable - as long as we will get warnings.
Has anyone successfully used Elevate yet in a production environment? We have a CPanel server running CL7.9 with 110 websites/user accounts and this is getting a little worrying about how to easily move forward / upgrade.
The ELevate with cPanel support was not released yet, we are planning to release it to beta in a few days. And you are welcome to our community forum which is a better place to talk to other members. See you there.
