Server crashes on Imunify360 malware scan

Issue

Server with kernel older than 4.18.0-305* and Imunify360 becomes unavailable when the malware scan is started. In the crash report the following error can be found at the same time:

# cat /var/crash/127.0.0.1-2021-12-06-04\:24\:08/vmcore-dmesg.txt | grep RIP

Environment

• Imunify360
• Kernel older than 4.18.0-305*
• CentOS 8
• CloudLinux 8
• CloudLinux 7 Hybrid Kernel

Solution

To resolve the problem, it is worth updating the kernel to the latest release and booting the server with it.

You can do so by running the following commands:

# dnf clean all
# dnf update kernel

Cause

The issue was triggered because the cgroups mode switched to v1, similar to this task KCARE-10090.
