Issue
After converting AlmaLinux 10 to CloudLinux OS 10, the operating system identification file still shows AlmaLinux (for example, /etc/os-release continues to report AlmaLinux).
Environment
- CloudLinux 10
- AlmaLinux 10
- cPanel/WHM
/etc/os-release
Solution
1. Understand the expected behaviour: starting with CloudLinux OS 10, the conversion uses a lighter approach and does not modify OS identification files, including /etc/os-release. Because of this, /etc/os-release may continue to identify the system as AlmaLinux after conversion.
2. Verify that CloudLinux OS is installed and functional using CloudLinux detection tools (recommended instead of relying on /etc/os-release):
cldetect --detect-edition
cldetect --check-license
cldetect --detect-os3. If WHM/cPanel still reports AlmaLinux, confirm you are running a cPanel version that supports your operating system and update if needed:
Refer to: “What operating systems are supported by cPanel” (cPanel documentation)
Note: If you need to prove CloudLinux OS presence for automation/monitoring, use
cldetect/cldiagresults rather than OS-release branding.
Cause
CloudLinux OS 10 conversion uses a new, lighter conversion approach that no longer alters OS identification files (including /etc/os-release).
